Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Copley’s Essentials of Accounting for Governmental and Not-for-Profit Organizations, 9e is best suited for those professors whose objective is to provide more concise coverage than what is available in larger texts. There is more comprehensive coverage of accounting for governmental and not-for-profit organizations than what is available in an advanced text but concise enough to be used effectively in a semester, quarter, or even a half term course focusing on just these areas. The main focus of this text is on the preparation of external financial statements which is a challenge among governmental reporting. This edition incorporates all of the FASB, GASB, GAO and AICPA pronouncements passed since the last edition.

Needed For BSB?Acc September 29, 2008 Tommy E. Grayson (Parker, Arizona) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is great. It has helped me to understand government accounting as never seen before. The examples and tables help in understanding the subject of the chapter being studyed. I would recommend this book for any student in regular college or on-line study.

I am not sure why this book has so many bad reviews. I am a 5th year accounting student and find this book very easy to follow as long as you have experience with FASB standards. It is possible this book makes logical sense to me, however, since my professor offers great supplemental explanations. Still, I believe this book has great explanations and examples. The continuous problem that is at the end of each chapter problems section is great for practice. There are a few things that it doesn't explain such as detailed explanations of the presentation of the statements but those are minor. It is definitely an easy read.
The poor reviews might be because they have the 8th edition, not the 9th edition. I have read that some say journal entries are written in paragraph form which is very wrong. Example journal entries are explained and then shown very clearly in a box below its explanation. It is even numbered so if it is referred to later, it is referenced and easy to follow.

I am very pleased with this book. And was exceptionally pleased at how fast I received it.
Great Reference, lousy text October 5, 2009 Robert Robey (Casselberry, FL United States) This is NOT a good textbook for someone learning accounting, however, this will be an excellent reference guide once I have learned the governmental accounting.
This text provides a significant number of journal type transaction entries any brief explanation of general areas of government accounting.
It lacks start to finish examples of how to complete many of the reporting and requirements for governmental accounting.
If I had it to do over again I would keep this text is a reference and not a textbook.
